Pip Ivan Chornohorskyi rises to 2,022 meters above sea level and is one of the highest and most iconic peaks in Ukraine. It is located at the southeastern end of the Chornohora ridge in the Ukrainian Carpathians, near the border with Romania. The mountain ranks among the top three highest summits in the country.
The peak is widely known for the historic White Elephant Observatory, built in the late 1930s when the region was part of Poland. The massive stone structure once served as an astronomical and meteorological station and remains one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Ukrainian Carpathians. Harsh weather conditions, strong winds, and heavy snowfall are typical at the summit.
Pip Ivan attracts hikers year-round, especially those completing the Chornohora ridge traverse. The ascent is considered moderately challenging due to elevation gain and rapidly changing mountain weather. From the summit, visitors can enjoy sweeping panoramic views across the Carpathian range and toward the Romanian border.
