Brebeneskul is one of the highest peaks in Ukraine, reaching 2,035 meters above sea level. It is located in the Chornohora range of the Ukrainian Carpathians, not far from Hoverla, and ranks as the second-highest mountain in the country. The peak lies within the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve, an area protected for its unique alpine ecosystems.
The mountain is known for its sharp ridgeline, steep grassy slopes, and panoramic views across the Carpathians. Near its base lies Lake Brebeneskul — the highest alpine lake in Ukraine — situated at an elevation of about 1,801 meters. This glacial lake adds to the scenic beauty of the area and attracts hikers and photographers.
Brebeneskul is popular among trekking enthusiasts, especially those hiking the Chornohora ridge route. While the ascent is considered non-technical, weather conditions can change rapidly, with strong winds and dense fog common at high altitude. From the summit, visitors can admire expansive views of neighboring peaks and the wild Carpathian landscape.
