Velkyi Kotel

Velkyi Kotel (Большой Котел / Котел, 1,770.8 m / 5,810 ft) is a prominent peak in the central part of the Svydovets massif in the Ukrainian Carpathians, located in Rakhiv district of Zakarpattia Oblast. Part of the scenic Svydovets ridge, it features broad alpine meadows (polonyna), gentle slopes, and nearby glacial lakes like Vorozheska and Apshanets. Popular routes include multi-day treks from Dragobrat (via Stig peak) or from Cherna Tysa village through polonyna Menchul and the ridge traverse to Bliznytsia or Tempa. The summit offers sweeping 360° views of Svydovets peaks, distant Chornohora, Maramoros, and the Tisza valley. It's favored by hikers for its accessible yet wild character, summer wildflowers, and fewer crowds compared to Hoverla—ideal for ridge walks, photography, and experiencing classic Carpathian highland scenery.
