The West Ridge is a documented alpine climbing line on Salbitschijen and is more serious than the normal south-ridge ascent. It involves steeper and more exposed climbing on rock, with route-finding that can be more complex than on the standard route. The ridge is an alpine objective rather than a simple scramble. Dry conditions are important because the rock can become much more demanding when wet or icy. It is suitable for climbers comfortable with sustained exposed alpine terrain. Descent is commonly made by another route rather than reversing the ridge.
