South Face

5A | TD | V Edit route
The South Face is a major alpine rock route on Salbitschijen and is significantly harder than the ridge routes. It is a steep granite climb with sustained technical sections and a more committing character. The route is known for requiring solid rock-climbing ability and efficient movement on exposed terrain. Weather and rock conditions are important, as the face can be affected by seepage or poor friction. It is an alpine climbing objective rather than a mountaineering walk-up. Parties usually need to be self-sufficient and prepared for a long descent.

The route is generally on solid granite but requires sure-footed movement and comfort on exposed terrain. Protection and route-finding can be important, especially in the upper sections. Conditions can vary with snow or verglas on the ridge. It is typically climbed as a day outing from the Salbithütte area.

West Ridge

4A | D | IV
The West Ridge is a documented alpine climbing line on Salbitschijen and is more serious than the normal south-ridge ascent. It involves steeper and more exposed climbing on rock, with route-finding that can be more complex than on the standard route. The ridge is an alpine objective rather than a simple scramble. Dry conditions are important because the rock can become much more demanding when wet or icy. It is suitable for climbers comfortable with sustained exposed alpine terrain. Descent is commonly made by another route rather than reversing the ridge.
