The Nose is the classic line on El Capitan and one of the most famous big-wall climbs in the world. It is a long, sustained aid and free-climbing route on steep granite, with major exposure throughout. The route is not a mountaineering snow or ice ascent, but a technical alpine-style rock climb on a very large wall. Objective hazards include rockfall, weather, and the logistical demands of hauling and bivouacking on the wall. The route is heavily documented in guidebooks and climbing literature. It is commonly climbed over multiple days, though exact ascent times vary widely by party and style.
