The South Face is a major alpine objective on Dhaulagiri and is far more serious than the normal route. It is a steep, committing line with sustained technical climbing, avalanche and serac danger, and very limited retreat options.
Route Outline
Dhaulagiri Base Camp -> foot of the South Face
Steep snow/ice and mixed climbing on the face -> high camps/bivouacs
Upper face -> summit ridge
Summit -> descend the face or via the standard route depending on conditions
