Normal Route (Northwest Ridge)

5B | TD+/ED1 | V/VI Edit route
This is the standard and best-documented route on Dhaulagiri, climbed via the long northwest ridge from the Hidden Valley side. It is a serious high-altitude alpine climb with objective hazards from avalanche-prone slopes, crevasses, and severe weather, and it typically requires multiple camps above base camp.

Route Outline

Northwest Ridge -> Camp I / Camp II -> upper ridge

The South Face is a major alpine objective on Dhaulagiri and is far more serious than the normal route. It is a steep, committing line with sustained technical climbing, avalanche and serac danger, and very limited retreat options.
