The Brenva Spur is one of the great classic alpine routes on Mont Blanc and is much more serious than the normal routes. It climbs the imposing south-east side of the mountain and is known for steep snow, ice, and mixed climbing. Conditions on the route vary greatly, and objective hazards such as serac fall, rockfall, and avalanche danger are significant. It is a long, committing line that demands strong alpine skills and good acclimatization. The route is historically important and widely documented in major alpine literature. It is generally considered a major mountaineering objective rather than a standard summit route.
