Piestewa Peak (2,610 ft / 796 m), formerly Squaw Peak, is the second-highest point in the Phoenix Mountains and a favorite for locals seeking a quick, intense workout. The 3-mile round-trip trail is steep and rocky, gaining about 1,200 ft with switchbacks and some scrambling near the top. From the summit, enjoy sweeping 360° views of the Phoenix skyline, Camelback Mountain, and surrounding desert ranges. It's especially popular at dawn and dusk for cooler temperatures and golden light photography. The peak honors Lori Piestewa, the first Native American woman killed in combat. Less crowded than Camelback but still busy; great for sunrise hikes and city escape.
