The West Ridge is a documented alpine route on Nuptse and is generally regarded as a major technical line. It follows a long, exposed ridge with steep snow and ice climbing and sections of mixed terrain. The route demands strong high-altitude climbing ability and careful route-finding. Cornices and wind-loaded snow can make the ridge dangerous, especially near the top. It is less face-oriented than the South Face but still a serious Himalayan climb. The route is established in climbing literature and expedition reports.
