Via Ferrata Formenton

This is one of the classic equipped alpine routes on Tofana di Mezzo and is widely documented in Dolomite guidebooks. It is a sustained via ferrata rather than a pure hiking path, with steep exposed sections and fixed protection. The route is generally considered demanding for a ferrata because of its length, exposure, and the mountain environment. Conditions can be serious in wet weather, with rockfall and crowding possible. It is normally climbed in summer when the ferrata is open and snow-free. The route is often combined with the cable-car access from the Tofana area, but the climbing itself remains a genuine alpine ascent.

The Giuseppe Olivieri ferrata is a well-known documented route on the Tofane massif and is commonly listed among the classic alpine ferratas of the area. It is a serious mountain route with long exposed sections, not a simple tourist trail. The route involves fixed cables, ladders, and steep rock, with sustained exposure throughout. It is best suited to climbers comfortable with ferrata technique and mountain conditions. Weather, lingering snow, and loose rock can significantly increase difficulty.
