The Southwest Ridge is a recognized alpine route on Weissmies and is more serious than the normal glacier route. It involves mixed terrain and typically requires more route-finding than the standard ascent. Conditions can vary significantly, with snow, ice, and loose rock all possible. The ridge is more exposed and committing than the normal route. It is suited to experienced alpinists comfortable with moderate mixed climbing in alpine conditions. Because of its character, it is less frequently climbed than the normal route.

Approach from the Saas Valley side
Climb to the southwest ridge line
Follow the ridge over mixed snow and rock terrain
Continue along the crest to the summit
Descend by the normal route or the ascent line
