South Ridge (Normal Route)
The South Ridge is the standard and best-known mountaineering route on La Grivola. It is a classic alpine ascent combining glacier travel, snow slopes, and a rocky ridge finish. The route is generally considered moderate in difficulty but requires solid mountain experience and good route-finding. Crevasse and rockfall hazards can be present depending on conditions. The upper ridge can feel exposed, especially in firm or icy conditions. It is typically climbed as a long day from the Cogne/Valnontey side, often with an overnight at Rifugio Vittorio Sella or a nearby bivouac.
