The North Face is a more serious alpine line than the normal south-ridge ascent. It is a mixed face route that can require snow, ice, and rock climbing in variable conditions. Objective hazards include rockfall, unstable snow, and changing glacier conditions below the face. The route is more committing than the ridge and is best attempted by experienced alpinists comfortable with route-finding in complex terrain. Conditions can change the character of the climb significantly from one season to another. It is a documented classic on the peak, but it is not the standard way to the summit.
Route Outline
Argentière / Charpoua or Couvercle sector -> approach beneath the north face
Climb the north face on mixed snow, ice, and rock terrain
Reach the upper slopes and exit to the summit ridge
Summit of Aiguille du Moine
Descend by the chosen descent route, often the south side if conditions allow
