Normal route via the Sulzenau Hut and the Wilder Pfaff saddle

This is the standard and best-known ascent of Zuckerhütl, the highest peak in the Stubai Alps. The route is a classic glacier-and-snow climb with a short but exposed final ridge section. Conditions can vary significantly, and crevasse and cornice hazards are common on the glacier approach. In late season the upper slopes may become steeper and more demanding, with firmer snow or ice. The climb is generally considered a straightforward alpine route in good conditions, but it requires full glacier equipment and mountain experience. It is usually done from the Sulzenau Hut area as a high-mountain day or with a hut overnight.

The east ridge is a more serious alpine alternative to the normal route and is documented as a mountaineering line on Zuckerhütl. It is typically more exposed and more technical than the standard glacier ascent. Depending on conditions, the route can involve mixed climbing on rock and snow with route-finding challenges. It is less commonly used than the normal route and is more sensitive to snow and ice conditions. Because of its exposure, it is best suited to experienced climbers comfortable on alpine ridges. Exact difficulty can vary with conditions, but it is generally regarded as harder than the normal ascent.
