This is the standard and by far the most commonly climbed route on Breithorn. It is a high-altitude glacier and snow ascent with generally moderate technical difficulty. The main objective hazards are crevasses, route-finding in poor visibility, and altitude. In normal conditions it is considered a straightforward alpine climb, but it still requires glacier travel competence and proper equipment. The route is often done as a day ascent from the Klein Matterhorn area. Conditions can vary significantly with snow cover and season.

East Ridge

3A | AD | III
The East Ridge is a recognized mountaineering route on Breithorn and is generally more serious than the normal glacier ascent. It is a ridge climb with greater exposure and more complex terrain than the standard route. Depending on conditions, it may involve mixed snow and rock sections.
