Normal Route (Branscomb Glacier Route)

This is the standard and best-known route on Mount Vinson, and the one most commonly used by guided expeditions. It ascends the Branscomb Glacier side of the massif and is generally considered the least technically demanding line to the summit. The route is still a serious Antarctic alpine climb because of extreme cold, high winds, and crevasse hazards on the glacier approach. Upper sections are typically climbed on snow and moderate-angle terrain, with fixed lines or rope protection used where conditions require it. Logistics are complex and the climb is usually done from a series of camps rather than a single push from low elevation. Weather windows are critical, and summit attempts can be delayed for many days by storms or visibility issues.
