East Face

This is the standard and best-known way to the summit of Aiguille d'Argentière. It typically starts from the Argentière area and ascends to the Glacier d'Argentière before reaching the upper mountain. The route then climbs the South-East Ridge, which is the key alpine section to the summit. It is a classic mixed glacier-and-ridge ascent with objective hazards from crevasses and snow conditions. The difficulty is generally moderate alpine climbing, but route-finding and glacier travel skills are essential. Conditions can change significantly with season and snow cover.

The North Face of Aiguille d'Argentière is a serious alpine route and a well-documented objective on the peak. It is considerably more committing than the normal route and is subject to ice, snow, and mixed conditions depending on the season. The face is exposed to rockfall and avalanche hazard, especially in warm or unstable conditions. Climbing is sustained and requires solid competence on steep snow and mixed terrain. It is generally treated as a major mountaineering line rather than a casual ascent option. Descent is often more complex than on the normal route and may require careful route-finding or a return by the standard side of the mountain.
