Cosmiques Route

3A | AD | III Edit route
The Cosmiques Route is a well-known alpine route on Mont Blanc du Tacul and is more technical than the normal snow route. It typically combines steep snow, ice, and short mixed sections, with conditions strongly dependent on the season. The line is exposed to rockfall and serac-related hazards in the lower and middle sections. It is a popular objective for climbers seeking a more demanding ascent from the Aiguille du Midi area. The route requires solid cramponing and ice-axe technique, and often protection on mixed terrain. It is usually climbed in good conditions and with an early start.

This is the standard and best-known way to climb Mont Blanc du Tacul from the Chamonix side. The route is a classic alpine snow-and-glacier ascent with objective hazards from crevasses and serac fall, especially on the approach across the Glacier du Tacul. Conditions can vary significantly with snow cover and avalanche risk. The climbing itself is generally moderate, but route-finding on the glacier and timing are important. It is commonly used as an acclimatization climb in the Mont Blanc massif. The route is normally done with glacier travel equipment and rope team techniques.

Gervasutti Pillar

5A | TD | V
The Gervasutti Pillar is one of the classic technical lines on Mont Blanc du Tacul. It is a serious alpine rock-and-mixed route with sustained difficulty and a much more committing character than the normal snow routes. The pillar is exposed and can be affected by rockfall, ice, and changing conditions. It is a major objective for experienced alpinists and is commonly treated as a high-commitment climb. The route demands efficient movement on steep terrain and reliable protection skills. Because of its technical nature, it is not a casual summit route.
