arête NE
From Kemmeribodenbad (975 m, terminus of the postal bus from Escholtzmatt station), continue on foot 1.5km along the alpine road to Küblisbühl (1068 m, small parking area if coming by car). Behind a concrete ruin (Hübeli, 1066 m on the map), take a small unmarked but fairly well-marked path climbing through the forest to emerge above pt 1583 (Birchegütsch). The path (grass and lapiaz, a few cairns) winds across the entire east shoulder of the Hohgant range, passing a small hut to reach pt 1949 m before coming back to a sort of col around 1880 m (joining on the left the path coming from the Hohganthütte) where it disappears.
Then climb very steep grassy slopes (45°) to a flat spot around 2000 m at the foot of the northeast ridge of Furggengütsch. Then climb the ridge more or less on its crest to the summit: alternation of rocky steps (2c/3a) and grassy sections, the whole thing remains frequently exposed with steep slopes on each side but never too dizzying. The "climbing" passages (sic) are fun and straightforward but the rest is sometimes loose. The fairly clear traces of passage make route-finding possible. No gear.
By the marked hiking trail, bucolic scenery and blueberries galore but rough ground and very leg-twisting with those lapiaz swallowed by the forest...
Small rope and 2-3 slings/carabiners.
