Mountaineering Routes

This is the best-known and most commonly documented mountaineering route on Zimba. It follows the southwest ridge and involves sustained alpine scrambling and short rock-climbing passages. The route is generally considered a classic easy-to-moderate alpine climb rather than a hiking path. Exposure is present on the ridge, and route-finding can be important in the upper section. Conditions can make the final rock steps significantly more serious when wet or icy. It is typically climbed in stable weather and with basic alpine equipment.

South Ridge

3A | AD | III
The south ridge is a documented alpine route on Zimba and is more of a mountaineering line than a walk. It is characterized by exposed ridge climbing on solid but broken rock. The route requires sure-footedness and comfort on steep alpine terrain. Depending on conditions, some sections may feel more difficult than the nominal grade suggests. It is best attempted in dry conditions, as loose or wet rock increases objective hazard. The route is usually described in standard alpine guidebooks for the Rätikon.
