The west ridge is a serious alpine route on the Jungfrau. It is more technical and exposed than the normal route and is generally considered a major mountaineering undertaking. The route combines mixed climbing with sustained exposure on the ridge. Conditions can make the difficulty vary considerably, especially where snow and ice cover the rock. Objective hazards include cornices, loose sections, and avalanche exposure on the approach. This is not a beginner route and requires solid alpine experience.
