This is the standard and best-documented mountaineering route to Schwarzenstein. It is a classic glacier ascent from the Schwarzensteinhütte, crossing the Schwarzensteinkees and finishing on the upper snow/ice slopes to the summit. The route is generally straightforward in alpine terms but requires proper glacier travel skills and crevasse awareness. Conditions can vary significantly with snow cover and late-season glacier exposure. Rope, crampons, and glacier equipment are normally required. The difficulty is usually modest by alpine standards, but objective hazards come from glacier terrain and changing snow conditions.
