The Northwest Chute is one of the classic alpine routes on North Palisade and is widely documented in Sierra Nevada climbing references. The route is generally considered a serious mountaineering objective rather than a simple snow climb. Parties often combine it with a glacier approach from the North Fork Big Pine Creek side.

The U-Notch Couloir is a major classic line on North Palisade and is well known from guidebooks and climbing reports. It is typically climbed as a steep snow and ice couloir leading to the notch and upper mountain. The route is more committing than many Sierra snow climbs because of its steepness and the possibility of mixed conditions. Objective hazards include rockfall, loose rock, and changing snow/ice quality. The upper section can require careful route-finding and secure movement on exposed terrain. It is a serious alpine climb best attempted in stable conditions.

The North Face of North Palisade is a documented alpine route on the peak and is among the more serious lines on the mountain. It is a large, steep face climb that can involve sustained snow, ice, and mixed climbing depending on conditions. The route is exposed to rockfall and avalanche hazard, and conditions can change quickly. Because of its size and seriousness, it is generally considered a major mountaineering objective. Route-finding and timing are important, especially in warm or unstable weather. It is not a hiking route and requires solid alpine experience.

The Northwest Face is another established technical route on North Palisade, documented in Sierra climbing literature. It is a steep alpine face climb with mixed snow, ice, and rock depending on season and conditions. The line is serious and exposed, with objective hazards from rockfall and unstable snow. It demands efficient movement and good judgment about conditions. The upper mountain can be complex, and the route is best treated as a full alpine climb. It is significantly more technical than the standard glacier approach to the peak.
