Matterhorn is a prominent peak in northeastern Oregon, reaching an elevation of approximately 2,998 meters. It is located in the Wallowa Mountains, often referred to as the “Alps of Oregon” due to their dramatic alpine terrain.
The mountain is known for its sharp ridges, steep rock faces, and classic pyramid-like shape, which inspired its name after the famous Swiss Matterhorn. Unlike many Cascade volcanoes, Matterhorn is composed primarily of granite, giving it a distinctly rugged character.
Matterhorn is popular among experienced hikers and climbers seeking challenging scrambles, exposed ridgelines, and breathtaking views of alpine lakes and glacial valleys in the Eagle Cap Wilderness.
