This is the standard and best-known ascent route to Grosser Löffler from the Greizer Hütte. The route can involve crevasses, a bergschrund, and exposed upper slopes or ridge terrain near the summit. Conditions may vary significantly late in the season, when the glacier can become more broken. It is usually descended by the same line.

This is a documented alpine route on Grosser Löffler from the southwest side. It is a more mountaineering-oriented line than a hiking ascent and may combine snow, rock, and exposed ridge sections. The route is less straightforward than the normal glacier route and is more dependent on route-finding and current conditions. In firm conditions it offers a classic mixed alpine climb with sustained exposure. Because of the terrain, it is best attempted with proper alpine experience and equipment.
