This is the standard and best-known route to the summit of Combin de Grafeneire. It is a serious high-alpine glacier and ridge climb, typically undertaken from the Cabane de Panossière. The route involves glacier travel, crevasse and serac hazards on the approach, and exposed mixed snow-and-rock climbing on the ridge. Conditions can vary greatly with snow cover and late-season ice. The upper mountain is remote and committing, with objective hazards from weather and route-finding. It is generally considered a mountaineering route rather than a technical rock climb.
