The South-West Ridge is a documented alpine route on Combin de Grafeneire and is more serious than the normal ridge line. It is a mixed route with sustained exposed climbing and more technical sections than the standard ascent. The ridge demands solid route-finding and stable conditions, especially because snow and ice can significantly change the difficulty. Objective hazards include cornices, loose rock, and glacier approach issues. It is a committing line suited to experienced alpinists. Descent is commonly made by the normal route if conditions allow.
