Breithornjoch is a high alpine pass in Switzerland, rising to 3338 m between glacier terrain and steep mountain slopes. It lies in the Pennine Alps near the Breithorn massif and is best known as a scenic crossing point for experienced hikers and mountaineers. The area offers wide views of surrounding 4000-meter peaks, but conditions are strongly influenced by snow, ice, and weather.
The pass is not a casual walking destination. Most approaches require glacier travel, route-finding skills, and suitable equipment, especially outside the short summer season. It is typically visited as part of a guided alpine tour or a longer mountain traverse rather than as a standalone hike.
Because of its elevation and exposed setting, Breithornjoch is best suited to fit, well-prepared visitors with mountain experience. The landscape is dramatic and remote, with a classic high-Alps atmosphere and fast-changing conditions.
