This is the standard documented alpine route to Balfrin and is generally climbed from the Balfrinhütte. It is a classic mixed snow-and-rock mountain route rather than a hiking path. The difficulties are usually modest but depend strongly on snow conditions and the state of the ridge. Crevasse travel and route-finding on the glacier approach can be significant early in the season. The final ridge to the summit is the key section and may require careful movement on exposed terrain. It is normally done as a guided or self-supported alpine ascent with glacier equipment.
