Climbing

Mountaineering Routes

This is the standard documented summit route on the Alpspitze and is one of the best-known alpine ferratas in the Wetterstein. It is a protected climbing route rather than a hiking trail, with sustained exposed sections and fixed cables. The route is generally classified as moderately difficult in alpine-ferrata terms, but it is serious in bad weather, with wet rock, congestion, and exposure being the main hazards. It is usually accessed from the Alpspitzbahn area near Osterfelderkopf. The final section follows the summit ridge to the top of the Alpspitze. Descent is commonly made by the same ferrata or by cable car infrastructure where conditions and operating status allow.

Nordwandsteig

2A | PD | II
The Nordwandsteig is a documented alpine approach on the north side of the Alpspitze and is commonly used to reach the ferrata start. It is not itself the summit route in the strictest sense, but it is part of the established mountain itinerary to the peak. The terrain is exposed and equipped in places, with mountain-path and easy climbing character rather than pure hiking. In poor visibility it can be confusing, and the route is best treated as a mountain route with alpine hazards. It is typically combined with the Alpspitz-Ferrata for the summit ascent. Because it is an approach/traverse rather than a standalone summit line, its summit-specific timing and gain are often not given separately in guidebooks.
