Colorado 14ers

by pickapeak

Colorado has 58 summits above 14,000 feet (4,267 m), more than any other US state, and climbing them all is the state's great mountain tradition. Mount Elbert, 4,401 m, is the highest point of the Rocky Mountains, and Longs Peak, Pikes Peak and the Maroon Bells are among the most famous.

The routes range from easy trails on Quandary Peak and Mount Bierstadt to exposed scrambles on Capitol Peak, Little Bear and the Crestones. Summer afternoons bring lightning almost daily, so most parties start before dawn and are off the summit by noon.
