Zurbriggen Ridge

The Linda Glacier Route is one of the standard alpine routes on Aoraki / Mount Cook and is widely documented in New Zealand climbing references. It is a serious glaciated ascent involving snow and ice travel, crevasse hazards, and objective avalanche and serac danger depending on conditions. The route is commonly used as a normal route from the east side of the mountain. Conditions on the glacier and upper slopes can change rapidly, and route-finding is important. It is a full mountaineering objective rather than a trekking route.

The East Ridge is a major alpine route on Aoraki / Mount Cook and is known as a more technical and committing line than the glacier routes. It typically involves mixed climbing on exposed ridge terrain with rock, snow, and ice sections. The route is serious in both objective hazard and route-finding, and conditions can vary substantially with snow cover and ice. It is a classic mountaineering line rather than a hiking route. Parties generally need strong alpine skills and favorable weather.

The North Ridge is another established alpine route on Aoraki / Mount Cook and is documented in climbing literature for the peak. It is a technical ridge climb with mixed snow, ice, and rock sections. The route is exposed and serious, with objective hazards typical of high alpine ridges. Conditions can make the difficulty vary significantly from season to season. It is suitable only for experienced mountaineers.
