Williams Lake Trail / Wheeler Peak Trail
This is the standard documented route to the summit of Wheeler Peak in the Taos Mountains. It is primarily a steep alpine hiking and scrambling ascent rather than a technical mountaineering climb. The route follows established trails from the Williams Lake area toward the Wheeler Peak summit ridge. In early season or after storms, snow, ice, and cornices can make the upper mountain a genuine alpine objective. Route-finding is usually straightforward in good visibility, but exposure to weather is significant because the summit is high and fully exposed. No reliable, widely documented technical alpine route names for this exact peak could be confirmed beyond the standard summit route.
