Via Normale from the French side via the Vallanta / northern approach

3A | AD | III Edit route
This is the documented normal alpine approach to Monte Viso from the French side, using the Vallanta area and then joining the upper mountain. It is a mountaineering route with exposed scrambling rather than a trekking itinerary. The upper mountain involves mixed terrain and route-finding on rock and broken ground. Snow can make the route considerably more serious. It is generally climbed in stable weather and with alpine equipment. The route is commonly treated as an alternative access to the same summit climb.

More routes on Monte Viso

This is the classic and best-known mountaineering route on Monte Viso. It is a genuine alpine climb rather than a hiking path, with sustained scrambling and short climbing sections on rock. The route is usually described as the normal way to the summit from the Italian side. Conditions can vary significantly with snow and ice lingering on the upper mountain. Route-finding is important in the upper sections, especially in poor visibility. The descent is normally made by the ascent route.
