Southwest Ridge

The Southwest Ridge is the best-known and most frequently cited climbing line on Rakaposhi. It rises from the south side of the mountain and is a major alpine route rather than a trekking line. The route is long, high, and serious, with objective hazards from avalanches, seracs, and unstable snow and ice. Conditions can vary greatly from season to season, and the upper mountain is exposed to severe weather. It is a major expedition-style ascent rather than a short technical climb. Documentation of the route exists in standard Himalayan climbing references and expedition reports.
