The Southwest Ridge is another documented alpine line on Morgenhorn and is typically climbed as a mixed ridge route. It combines glacier approach with snow and rock climbing higher up. The route is exposed to changing snow conditions, especially on the ridge crest and upper slopes. It requires competent navigation in glaciated terrain and comfort with exposed alpine movement. As with many Bernese Alps routes, the objective danger can be higher than the technical grade suggests. Conditions determine whether the route feels straightforward or quite serious.
Route Outline
Approach from the Lötschental / Lötschenlücke side toward the southwest side of Morgenhorn
Gain the ridge from the glacier or upper snow slopes
Climb mixed terrain and easier upper sections along the ridge toward the summit
Return by the same line or a suitable glacier descent depending on conditions
