South Ridge from the Finsteraarhorn Hut
The south ridge is a classic and more technical alpine line on Finsteraarhorn. It is steeper and more exposed than the normal route, with a greater proportion of mixed climbing and ridge exposure. The route requires solid conditions and careful route-finding, especially where the ridge narrows. It is a well-established mountaineering objective in the Bernese Alps. Compared with the normal route, it is generally more committing and less straightforward. Snow and ice conditions can significantly affect the difficulty.
