South Ridge from Świnicka Przełęcz

The south ridge is a well-known alpine ascent of Świnica and is more of a scrambling and easy-climbing route than a pure hike. It follows an exposed rocky crest with short steeper sections that require sure-footedness and comfort on airy terrain. In dry conditions it is generally less technically demanding than the north-face lines, but it remains a mountaineering route because of exposure and the need for hands-on climbing. The route is sensitive to weather, especially wind and rain, which make the ridge much more serious. It is usually climbed in summer or early autumn. The descent is often made carefully back along the same ridge.

3B | AD+/D− | III/IV
This is the classic mountaineering line on Świnica’s north side and is documented in Tatras climbing literature. It is a serious alpine route rather than a hiking trail, with steep mixed terrain and exposed rock sections. The route is typically climbed in summer conditions when snow and ice are absent or limited, but it can still be hazardous in wet or icy weather. Route-finding is important on the upper part of the face and near the ridge. Exposure is significant, and a fall would have serious consequences. The descent is commonly made by reversing the ascent or by continuing to the pass and descending the normal mountain paths if conditions allow.
