South Ridge (Arête Sud)

This is the classic documented alpine route on Aiguille de l'A Neuve. It follows the south ridge, combining snow, rock, and mixed climbing on a narrow alpine crest. The route is generally considered a serious mountaineering outing rather than a technical rock climb. Objective hazards include loose rock, cornices, and rapidly changing conditions on the ridge. The difficulty is moderate but sustained, with route-finding important in poor visibility. It is typically climbed in stable weather and firm early-morning conditions.
