South Ridge

2A | PD | II Edit route
The South Ridge is the standard mountaineering route on Almagellerhorn and is described in Swiss alpine guide sources. It is generally a non-glaciated or only lightly glaciated alpine climb, depending on conditions and the exact line taken near the summit. The route is typically approached from the Almagelleralp / Almagellerhütte area in the Saas Valley. It involves steep alpine terrain with some scrambling and exposed sections rather than sustained technical climbing. In early season or after fresh snow, the ridge can require more careful route-finding and may feel significantly more serious. The main objective hazards are loose rock, exposure, and possible snow or ice on the upper ridge.
