South Ridge

3A | AD | III Edit route
A well-known alpine route on the opposite side of the mountain, ascending the south ridge toward the summit. It is a mixed ridge climb with sections of scrambling and exposed climbing on rock and snow. The route is typically less straightforward than a simple glacier ascent and requires good route-finding. Objective hazards can include loose rock and unstable snow, depending on season and conditions. It is established in the mountaineering literature for Unter Gabelhorn. The route is suitable only for experienced alpinists comfortable on exposed ridges.

North Ridge

3A | AD | III
A classic alpine ridge route on the Unter Gabelhorn, usually climbed from the Zinal side. It follows the north ridge over mixed rock and snow, with route-finding that can be complex in poor visibility. The difficulties are generally moderate but sustained, with exposed sections on the ridge crest. Conditions vary significantly with snow cover and rock quality. It is a serious mountaineering objective rather than a hiking route. The route is documented in standard alpine guide sources for the peak.
