South Face / South Ridge Route

The south side of Piz Roseg offers a more serious alpine climb than the normal route. It is a documented mountaineering line on the mountain, but conditions and exact difficulties depend heavily on snow and ice. The route can involve steep snow, mixed climbing, and exposed sections. Objective hazards include rockfall, icefall, and unstable snow bridges on the approach. Because of its seriousness, it is less commonly used than the standard east-ridge ascent. It is best attempted only with solid alpine experience and current route information.

Normal Route via Fuorcla Surlej and the East Ridge

3A | AD | III
This is the standard and best-known mountaineering route on Piz Roseg. It is a classic alpine glacier-and-ridge climb, usually started from the Engadin side via Fuorcla Surlej. The route involves glacier travel with crevasse and serac hazards, especially in warm conditions and later in the season. The upper section follows the east ridge, where snow and mixed terrain can require careful route-finding and secure movement. Conditions can vary significantly from year to year, so the difficulty is strongly dependent on snow cover and ice exposure. It is generally considered a serious high-alpine ascent rather than a simple walk-up.
