South Face Route

A documented alpine route on the south side of Shkhara, generally approached from the Bezingi area. The route is a glacier-and-snow ascent with steeper upper sections than a simple trekking objective, and it requires glacier travel skills and crevasse management. It is exposed to snow instability and weather changes common in the Central Caucasus. The exact line and difficulty can vary with conditions, but it is recognized as a standard mountaineering route on the mountain. It is less technical than the north face but still a serious high-altitude climb.

North Face Route

5B | TD+/ED1 | V/VI
A classic and serious alpine line on Shkhara, climbing the mountain’s large north face toward the summit ridge. It is a sustained snow-and-ice route with objective hazards from avalanches, seracs, and rockfall. Conditions on the face can change quickly, and the route is typically attempted in stable weather and firm snow. It is significantly more committing than the normal glacier approaches on the south side. The line is documented in Caucasus climbing literature and is one of the best-known technical routes on the peak.

Southwest Ridge Route

5A | TD | V
A named ridge route on Shkhara’s southwest side, documented among the mountain’s established climbing lines. Ridge climbing on this peak can involve mixed snow, ice, and rock, with long exposed sections and complex route-finding. The route is more technical and committing than the standard glacier routes. Cornices and unstable snow are common hazards on the ridge. It is a serious alpine objective in the Caucasus rather than a trekking ascent.
