A well-known but highly serious route on Makālu, taking the huge south side of the mountain. The line is demanding and committing, with complex terrain, severe altitude, and significant objective hazards.
A major technical alpine route on Makālu, first climbed in 1971 by a strong international team. It is a serious mixed and rock climb on a very large, remote face, with objective hazards from altitude, weather, and route-finding.
One of the classic established lines on Makālu, climbed via the broad northwest aspect of the mountain. It is a long high-altitude alpine route with sustained steep snow, ice, and mixed climbing, and is exposed to avalanche and storm danger.
The standard route to the summit of Makālu, following the northwest ridge and upper mountain camps. It is still a very serious 8000-metre climb, with long sections of snow and ice, high exposure, and extreme altitude.
