Ski Hut Route

2A | PD | II Edit route
This route is the established snow-climbing approach from the Ski Hut area to the summit of Mount San Antonio. In mountaineering conditions it is typically used as an ascent of the upper mountain after reaching the hut or its vicinity. The route is generally less technical than the steeper lines in Baldy Bowl, but it still requires snow travel and winter judgment. Ice axe and crampons may be necessary when the slope is firm or icy. The route is documented in local climbing literature as a standard alpine way to the summit. It should be treated as a mountaineering route rather than a summer hiking path.

Baldy Bowl Route

2A | PD | II
This is the classic winter/spring mountaineering line on Mount San Antonio, commonly climbed when the bowl is filled with snow. It ascends the broad north-facing Baldy Bowl to the Ski Hut area and then continues to the summit ridge. Conditions can range from straightforward snow travel to steep, icy climbing depending on season and snowpack. Avalanche hazard is a major concern in the bowl, especially after storms or during warming. The route is well known in Southern California mountaineering circles and is documented in climbing references for the San Gabriel Mountains. It is not a hiking trail route; it is a snow climb used as an alpine ascent.
