Route from Juvasshytta via the glacier crossing and summit ridge

This is the other classic documented ascent of Galdhøpiggen and is widely used from the northern side. The route involves glacier travel and is typically done with a guide or in a guided group because of crevasses and changing snow conditions. The climbing difficulty is modest, but the alpine context makes route-finding and glacier safety important. The final section to the summit is on high, open terrain with snow and rock. It is a well-established summit route rather than a technical climb. Conditions can vary significantly through the season.

This is the standard and best-documented ascent of Galdhøpiggen and is commonly treated as a mountaineering route because it crosses glacier terrain and reaches the highest point in Norway. The route is generally straightforward in good conditions but requires normal alpine caution on snow, ice, and crevassed glacier sections. It is usually climbed with glacier equipment when conditions warrant. The upper part is an exposed high-mountain walk on broken rock and snow. In poor visibility the glacier and plateau can be confusing. It is the most established route to the summit from the Jotunheimen side.
