This is the standard and best-documented mountaineering route on Mount Langley. It is a non-technical alpine climb on mostly Class 2 terrain, with route-finding and altitude being the main challenges. The route typically uses Old Army Pass to gain the high basin south of the peak, then follows broad talus and slopes to the summit ridge. Snow can linger on the pass and upper slopes well into the season, which may increase difficulty. Exposure is limited compared with more technical Sierra peaks, but loose rock and weather remain important hazards. It is commonly climbed as a long day or with an overnight in the Cottonwood Lakes area.
