Northwest ridge from the Grünhornlücke side

3A | AD | III Edit route
This ridge line is a documented alpine ascent option on the mountain, approached from the glacier saddle side. It is a mixed snow-and-rock route with typical Bernese Alps exposure. The ridge requires steady movement and comfort on unprotected terrain. Glacier approach and cornice or snow conditions may affect the safest line. It is less straightforward than a simple snow climb and is best suited to experienced mountaineers. Depending on conditions, parties may combine it with other Fiescherhorn routes.

This is the standard and best-known ascent line on Kleines Fiescherhorn. It is a classic high-alpine glacier-and-ridge climb, usually undertaken from the Finsteraarhorn Hut. The route involves crevassed glacier travel on the Fiescher Glacier, so ropework and route-finding are important. The upper mountain is climbed on mixed snow and rock terrain, with the difficulty concentrated on the ridge section. Conditions can vary significantly with snow cover and glacier state. It is generally considered a serious but not extreme Bernese Alps summit objective.
